ObesitySome researchers claim that more than 300,000 Americans die every year due to obesity, and the number is increasing every year. This is a huge number and can be solved in several ways, but some individuals are lazy, others cannot lose weight for medical reasons. Obesity causes diseases from diabetes to heart disease and in some cases death. Obesity in children is a growing problem because obese children are more likely to develop diabetes or heart failure. The school environment is one of many contexts that can influence children's food choices and eating habits. Schools can ensure that available food and drink options are healthy and help young people eat food that meets dietary recommendations for fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. What if I told you that obesity in six-year-olds is obesity? at eleven years old it went from 7% in 1980 to 18% in 2012. In the same time period adolescents aged twelve to nineteen went from 5% to almost 21%. Obesity is a problem in this nation and is on the rise. The things that are consumed daily by most people are why this is a problem. Several sets of exercise lasting five minutes or more may be better for preventing childhood obesity than intermittent physical activity sessions lasting four minutes or less throughout the day. (American Journal of Preventive Medicine) Obesity in adults and children has increased dramatically over the past 30 years. Currently, 31% of adults and 18% of children are obese, as defined by their body mass index (BMI). The vast majority of obesity represents an imbalance between calories ingested and calories expended. Other causes of obesity (metabolic, medicinal and other diseases) are... the focus of the paper... a smaller, healthier nation. What Mayor Bloomberg did in New York was fantastic. Yes, controlling how much someone drinks is horrible in some people's eyes, but this is what needs to be done if we want a healthier nation. Too many people have died in this country because obesity and fast food companies like Mc Donald's and Taco Bell are the reasons the country is the way it is. My mother was obese and spent hours at the gym and ate well. He is now much better and lives a normal life without having to worry about high cholesterol or heart disease. My uncle is still overweight and has a lot of health problems and can't lose weight and isn't trying, but as a family we are trying to help him. Obesity is still a growing problem in this nation, but as science advances and people diet, this will change over time.
