Electric GuitarThe electric guitar was first produced in Oklahoma. This electric guitar model made in Oklahoma was the first of its kind and changed music for everyone. The simplicity of the electric guitar has surprised many people. Since then all electric guitars have been based on this simple design. Many famous musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and many others have made the electric guitar more affordable and widely available. There are many parts of a guitar; one of the most important parts of the guitar is the bridge. The guitar bridge is usually mounted on the top of the guitar and is usually what secures the strings to the body. There are a few different types of bridges such as hard tail, float, vibrato and string through. A hard tail slides the strings from the guitar's headstock directly behind the bridge. A moving guitar bridge is similar to a vibrato in that they both have a whammy bar. With a string through the guitar, the strings pass through the bridge and are anchored to the back of the guitar. An example of a string through bridge is the telecaster and the schecter. (Broadbent, Peter)Without a pickup in an electric guitar you wouldn't hear any sound. A pickup works by sending an electrical current through magnets, then through the tone and volume knobs, and finally to the amplifier. There are a couple of different types of pickups, commonly used to give guitarists different sounds. A single coil pickup gives the guitar a very clean and more acoustic sound. A double coil or humbucker was created to reduce the amount of hum produced by the single coil. A humbucker uses two single coils connected in series to remove hum; hence the name “humbucker”. The cost of a solid state amplifier will be on the lower end of the scale. If the musician wants the best of both worlds, another type of amplifier he can consider is called a hybrid amplifier. A hybrid amplifier will contain both solid-state and tube technology. Many hybrid amps will have the power coming from the solid state section and the tubes will power the sound. The cost of a hybrid amplifier will be between the cost of a solid state amplifier and that of a tube amplifier. The electric guitar greatly influenced how music was played in the past, present or future. Musicians can be creative and get great sound from the wide variety of guitars, pickups, pedals or amplifiers. Whatever type of music you like, everyone should appreciate the importance of the electric guitar.
