Eyes on the prize: Ain't Scared of Your Jails (1960-1961) shows the importance of students during the civil rights movement . The first part of the episode shows black college students staging sit-ins in Nashville, refusing to leave their lunch counters until they were served. When those students were arrested, other black residents began boycotting other eating places, stores, and buses in protest. They also refused bail and filled Nashville's jails to capacity. During the anti-lunch movement, furious crowds attacked student protesters with insults, physical intimidation, and arrests. Though somehow, through it all, the students refrained from reacting. Soon after, students began challenging segregation in other Southern college towns. Ben West, the mayor of Nashville, called for “law and order” when students staged a boycott of downtown stores and attracted much national media attention. There was then a march in front of City Hall, where students challenged Mayor West to openly recognize the evils of segregation and abolish segregation....
