People made crosses out of twigs and set fire to the twigs because it was cold and they needed a way to keep warm. They had estimated that around 500,000 people would be killed that day in April. The country's population and industrial infrastructure were destroyed and relocated. Gross domestic product has been reduced. Humanitarian organizations working in the region say Rwandan children are the most vulnerable to the poverty that then follows the ethnic group.
