An individual may be at the national level of a situation, feeling that he has an official and legal connection to it, without subjectively or psychologically perceiving a part of that situation. On the other hand, an individual may feel that they are connected to a situation without having any legal connection to it. For example, children who were brought to the United States illegally when they were very young, and who grow up there without knowing their migrant location, often have a national feeling identification in the United States, despite being legally individuals of their country of origin.
