Topic > Radiographic Examination and Image Processing - 1626

IntroductionImage processing is one of the most crucial parts of simple radiographic examination. In analog image processing, the image processing is handled manually by doing it in the darkroom, manually operating the machine and storing it in racks. Returning to history, the first founder of radiography is Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, professor at the University of Würzberg. He learned the production of X-rays while working in his laboratory on November 8, 1895 (Carlton RR, Adler AM, 2006). As a professional radiologist, you should apply the concept of ALARA, which stands for As Low As Reasonably Achievable. The importance of this concept is to achieve the best image quality with the lowest possible dose on the patient. A professional radiologist should train to apply the use of close collimation, filter the primary beam, use ideal kV techniques, and minimize repeat radiographic examination. Medical imaging professionals must also apply lead shielding to the patient to avoid exposure to sensitive regions, such as the gonad and thyroid region (Bontrager KL, Lampignano JP, 2010). Image quality and patient dose can be manipulated with the use of various analog imaging components. The components are the intensifier screen, the grille and the cassette. The combination of film and screen can further influence the quality of the image and the exposure needed to produce the image. These components must be operated manually by medical imaging professionals; therefore it must be mastered to achieve the best image quality while having the lowest possible dose on the patient.DiscussionThe intensifying screen, the grid and the cassette greatly affect the image quality, as well as...... half of paper ... we must do good to others, especially to human beings. Allah said in the Quran, chapter 2, verse 195, “And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by abstaining]. And do good; verily Allah loves those who do good.” This verse tells us that Allah teaches us not to harm ourselves and other people, as well as other creations of Allah. At the end of the verse, Allah praises and blesses people who have done good things to others. This means that Allah encourages us to be good people and behave well with our patients in our work, helping doctors to easily diagnose the high quality of the x-ray image and lower the dose to patients which can harm their health. As medical imaging professionals, we should apply this concept to obtain the blessings of Allah and seize the opportunity to enter His paradise.
