Less than a year ago people were outraged by the huge event that was making headlines everywhere in the news. This incident was called the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill, and this spill has kept many scared and waiting for answers about the future. The BP oil spill significantly changed many lives, cost a lot of money, and happened because people were careless at work and not as aware as they should have been. April 20, 2010 was a day that many remember, but not for long. respectable reason. On that particular day, an explosion occurred at the drilling rig which caused a massive fire killing eleven workers and leaving 17 injured (Walsh 2). The fire lasted 36 hours, until the platform formally sank (BP Internal Investigation 3). From the beginning people's lives were taken away, and not only did many people die, but some were depressed and others caused financial problems. Even though BP did not own the oil rig, it was held responsible for what happened. The (Macondo oil well), was drilled less than a year ago, but was “owned by the drilling company Transocean and leased to energy giant BP” (Walsh 1). BP was still responsible for this disaster that people called an accident, even though the company did not own the plant.
