Edgar Allan Poe has a unique writing style that uses different elements of literary structure. Use intriguing vocabulary, repetition, and imagery to better capture the reader's attention and draw them into the story. Edgar Allan Poe's style is dark and his mysterious writing style appeals to emotion and drama. What may be Poe's greatest fictional stories are Gothic and tend to have the same recurring theme of death, lost love, or both. His choice of words draws the reader in to engage them in understanding the author's message more clearly. Authors who have short and vague vocabulary tend not to engage the reader very much. An example of his authorization is the way he begins the “Fall of the House of Usher,” for example, with a description of the house, which is adorned with “phantasmagoric heraldic trophies” (Long). The word “phantasmagoric,” which does not is commonly used, it causes the audience to stop and contemplate the contextual implications of that term. Edgar Allen Poe has a very effective way of using vocabulary as a literary device to add meaning to his works. In addition to vocabulary, the use of repetition from part of Poe ensures that his audience will appreciate the deeper meaning of his writing and understand what concepts are important in his stories "The Tell-Tale Heart", the narrator, after claiming that he is not crazy, goes on to describe " how stealthily, stealthily" (Long) proceeds when he enters the old man and ruins the room with the lantern. The repetition of "stealthily" demonstrates how sneaky the narrator is, suggesting that he is mad. Edgar Allan Poe is known for his use of imagery. As he begins the account of his reunion with Roderick Usher in “The Fall of the House of Ushe……middle of paper……! stronger! stronger! Stronger!" (Poe) is an example of the beating heart. One of the other literary devices that Poe focuses on is personification. Personification is used to provide a realistic description of an object. Personification is one of the literary devices that give life to his writings. For example, "... heavy brass rod, and the whole hissed as it swung in the air." (The Pit and the Pendulum) is a great example Poe's writing style. Poe uses these and many other types of literary devices to bring his writing to life. Using imagination he was able to create these works of true art. Poe made his stories so eloquent that you had to use your mind to read them , which made them popular in America. Even today, scholars read his work and try to understand Poe's mind (Poe)
