Topic > Artist's Books - 2468

When searching for articles relating to artists' books I was able to identify four main categories. In the first category are articles by people in the book arts field. Artists, teachers and book editors, for example Drucker (1995), Smith (2005) and Carothers (2000). The second category includes articles that examine the potential of book arts in teaching, for example McGuire (2007) and ?? . The third category includes articles by librarians, scholars from schools of information and library science, such as Klima's Study (1998). I also add a final category which is work created in book form; for example: editions, one-offs and altered books. For this category I choose the book Gross and Barbra (2009) The first category Articles by artists, curators and critics Drucker: The Century of Artists' Books. (1995)I choose this book because it is one of the first studies that have been written about the artist's book field and its development. This book is considered one of the first and most important volumes that addresses the development of artists' books in the twentieth century form of art. and contributed enormously to shaping the artist's book as a genre. Drucker tries to define the term and highlights its difficulties: “It is a zone created in space at the intersection of a number of different disciplines, fields and ideas – rather than at their limits. And rather than trying to causally explain the development of the artist's book in the 20th century, I hope to demonstrate the way in which it is the art form par excellence of the 20th century. An artist's book is a "book created as an original work of art", which integrates the way it is produced “with its thematic and aesthetic issues” (Drucker, 1995). However, Drucker goes on to talk about… half of the paper… real actions. alphabetic symbols, collages and color fields. The project represents a conversation through the medium of contemporary letterpress printing. “There are many factors that led me to choose this book. First of all, the subject “The Machine”, and how the artists could express it ? How could machine manuals and diagrams be transformed into works of art? This volume documents the Vandercook press and its changing role from a simple proofing machine to the press preferred by printers. The second reason for choosing this volume is the collaboration between different disciplines and artists who work with images, text, paper and, the third reason is the educational aspect of the project, because there was also collaboration between teachers and students of the Center For Book arts in New York to make some of the sheets.
