He initially showed no interest in meeting the "blind man" who was the "shadow" in his marriage, as he was consumed with jealousy because his wife apparently she had more interest in Robert than in him. There was one instance where he was numb and his wife told him “if you love me, you can do this for me and if you don't love me, okay” (Gardner et al, 2013, p. 301). This outburst from his wife showed him that she was serious about entertaining Robert and that she cared deeply about him.
