The great physicist Albert Einstein once said: "A new kind of thinking is essential if humanity is to survive and move to higher levels." He understood the importance of exploiting new things to create something beneficial for humanity. No one demonstrates this way of thinking better than Einstein because he had the courage to explore fields of science that few have ever approached to make the world a better place. Today, human society is faced with the harmful consequences of global warming due to pollution resulting from the burning of fossil fuels; the world once again needs to discover alternatives never seen before. These alternatives may be risky in some ways, but for humanity to thrive and continue to survive, these risks are necessary. An alternative to fossil fuels is nuclear energy, a recent innovation that is still quite rare in energy production. Clearly, nuclear energy should play a greater role in providing energy to the world because it has environmental, sustainable, and political incentives. Nuclear energy has significant environmental advantages over conventional energy sources. A great example is comparing the effects of fossil fuels and nuclear energy on global warming. When looking at pollution, an important factor is a power plant's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The use of nuclear energy could significantly slow global warming because it produces much less CO2 than fossil fuels. For example, a 1,250 megawatt coal-fired power plant releases 11.8 million tons of CO2 per year; a nuclear power plant of similar size releases only 0.5 million tons (McLeish 37). This means that nuclear energy produces less than 5% of the emissions compared to coal energy! However, people may doubt the impact of global warming. Global warming signs are… middle of paper… a solution to ending dependence on foreign oil and maintaining a stable source of energy. Overall, the environmental, practical and political benefits make nuclear energy the ideal source for powering the world. No matter what critics say or believe, the advantages of nuclear energy far outweigh any disadvantages. Despite the fact that people probably want to increase nuclear power plants immediately, achieving the ultimate goal of fighting pollution or foreign indebtedness will take time. Fortunately, by choosing nuclear energy, the American public will have taken a step into the future to create more innovative features that benefit everyone. As the world continues to advance, people will need to take risks that can lead to better lives. Whether positive results are immediate or not, taking risks will definitely pave the way for improvement and success.
