Topic > The Rajneeshpuram Cult Led by Chandra Mohan Jain

Rajneeshpuram was a 1980s cult located in The Dalles, Oregon and led by Chandra Mohan Jain, also known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh or Osho. He was born in India and lived his early life there, traveling everywhere and speaking publicly about his spiritual philosophy. He was famously known for his free views on sexuality and was considered the “sex guru” (Vasant Joshi, 1982) by the press around the world. His first group of followers called themselves neo-sannyasins and followed him to his first ashram developed in Pune, India. Because of his provocative teachings and the continued growth of neo-sannyasins, scrutiny of government officials and community members was increasing. In an attempt to avoid any legal problems, Rajneesh and the neo-sannyasins fled to the state of Oregon in 1981 and founded what is now known as Rajneeshpuram. Although Rajneesh had a following of several thousand people, as a guru he was far from legitimate. His main focus in life was money, his elected leaders were filled with criminals, and his teachings were unforgivable. In Rajneesh's eyes it seemed that his teachings alone were enough of a gift to give to his people, and in return they had bought him. gifts. The neo-sannyasins had used their hard-earned money to purchase several of Rajneesh's Rolls-Royce automobiles, with one individual stating, “I wanted to buy Osho enough that I could drive one for every day of the year” (Les Zaits, 2011). It is estimated that a total of 93 Rolls-Royces were in Rajneesh's possession, the largest amount owned by one person in the world at the time, and his reasoning was that "the anger and envy that he possessed so many... so absurdly, unnecessarily, scandalously many of them... middle of paper... your child is born with some defect such as blindness, deafness or mutism that "should be put into eternal sleep" (Osho, 1997). hearing someone tell you that your child was born with a birth defect you should put him down, it would be unbearable This should never be an option, much less for a child who has no say in the matter. in the United States or somewhere else in the world, he has had an impact on his followers with his love of money, poor choice of leaders and offensive teachings, it is safe to say that his impact has not been great. best. He not only gave a bad name to the neo-sannyasins, but also to the places and people he associated with. He was denied entry to 21 countries, before returning to Poona, India, which shows that no one wanted this man to be part of their culture.
