Pete Rose Scandal Pete Rose is undoubtedly one of the best baseball players to ever play the game. Unfortunately he was also part of the gambling on sports that currently prevents him from being in the Hall of Fame. Even 25 years later, this is still one of the most controversial topics talked about in baseball today. Even though Rose holds the record for most hits in baseball history, with all the trials and controversies his ticket to the Hall of Fame may never be punched. Pete Rose was one of the best hitters to ever play baseball. Rose has a career batting average of .375; his highest single-season batting average was .428 and his lowest was .269. (Peter). Rose is the holder of nineteen major league records (Weinburg) and his most honorable was 4256 career hits (Pete). His career began in 1963, batting .273 with 170 hits and winning Rookie of Year honors. Over his twenty-four year career, Rose became an all-star seventeen times, won two Gold Glove Awards and one Silver Slugger Award. Rose also finished in the top ten in MVP voting ten times over the course of his career, but won only once in 1973. While Rose's career was amazing and better than that of a good majority of the members already inducted into the Hall of Fame , his only mistake might be keeping himself out of the room forever (Pete).
