Immanuel KantImmanuel Kant was born, lived and died in his hometown of Königsberg. He lived from 1724 to 1804. He studied at the local university and later returned to tutor and lecture students. It was only when he met an English merchant named Joseph Green that Kant learned about David Hume and began to develop his ideas of morals and values. Kant's Critique of Pure Reason (1781) is considered by many to be his greatest work. Kant was best known, however, for his moral code, The Categorical Imperative. Immanuel Kant was a follower of deontology, or ethics of duty. This means that for an act to be moral it must be performed out of duty.
