During the 1900s the Progressive Era was a time of political, economic, and social reform for the United States in. It was a time when American citizens looked to their government as the driving force for change in our country. Although the methods of these presidents were very different, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson will always be remembered as progressive presidents who fought for change. Theodore Roosevelt Roosevelt, who became president after the assassination of William McKinley, was a devoted member of the Republican Party. Although he was the youngest president to ever hold office, he had considerable political experience. Roosevelt's political experiences range from being governor of New York, New York City police commissioner, member of the New York State Assembly, and assistant secretary of the Navy.
