A great leader is a person who takes and guides a group toward a certain direction or goal. Leaders don't just designate tasks and responsibilities to the people under them, they teach them and help them complete their tasks. The purpose of this article is to talk about a great leader who was faithful to God until his last breath. We will explore Joshua's story, personality and leadership style. Story/Background Every person needs good leadership especially in times of struggle and doubt, for those who lead and who may one day serve as leaders, Joshua serves as a role model. According to Damazio, “Leaders are the first to model God's will for others to follow, he or she is at the forefront and leads by example, both in battle with God's enemies and in establishing truth and justice in the kingdom of God (Frank, 1996, p, 19)”. Joshua then stands before us as an example of what it takes to be a great leader. We must insist on the historical veracity of the Bible as it records the life of Joshua. Joshua is the compelling story of the fulfillment of the promise. “So the LORD gave to Israel all the land which he had sworn to give to their fathers; and they possessed it and dwelt in it” (Joshua 21:43 NIV). This is the land that God promised Israel through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Part of Joshua's story includes that he was able to possess the land of Canaan; through faith and obedience to God it was fulfilled. It is impressive to note the great influence Joshua had on his peers; this shows that he was a leader of great influence. Part of Joshua's story includes that he was born as Hosea to be a nun in Egypt, in the year 2406. From creation like Moses, he was hidden in the Nile after birth to escape... middle of paper... a person who takes and leads a group towards a certain direction or goal. The qualities of Joshua's background, personality, and leadership styles along with the mighty hand of God qualified him to be able to achieve victory. Although Joshua faced real battles in the flesh, he shows us how today we can put on “the whole armor of God” to defeat the powers of darkness and achieve total victory. In a world where Christian role models seem increasingly rare, Joshua reminds us that some of the most worthy examples of godly character are still the biblical figures who have brought power, wisdom, and inspiration to God's people throughout the ages. Joshua was a faithful man of God, whose goal in life was to be faithful to the end. Principles flow through Joshua's life that guide us through the labyrinth of challenges we face in today's world and help us emerge victoriously.
