Alcoholics Anonymous Initially, I was very scared and worried about going to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting. I wasn't sure what to expect and the only time I really knew what happened during these meetings was what I saw on television. I decided to go there just one evening and was very surprised to see how the meeting was organised. I felt a little uncomfortable at first, but I wanted to have a good experience, so I was honest and open just like everyone else was. There was a sense that you should feel comfortable here and be able to share your struggles and experiences and you and everyone can learn from them and reflect together. The meeting was small, maybe fifteen people or so and we all sat in a circle. There was one person running the meeting. The meeting was open, meaning alcoholics could attend along with family or friends. The meeting started with one person introducing themselves while everyone responded by saying hello together.
