However, year-round school allows students and staff to take breaks. In most cases, schools that participate in a year-round system tend to go to school for nine weeks with a three-week break in between. Over the course of the year, students will spend 180 days in the classroom, according to the traditional system. However, schools that participate in a traditional system go to school for forty-five to ninety days, take a two-week break, return to school for forty-five to ninety days, and then receive a 3-month summer. Just because a school district participates in a year-round system does not mean that students and staff who attend the school district go to school more days during the year than students and staff who attend a school district that participates in a traditional system. The number of class days included in an annual program is the same as a traditional program, but divided into twelve months, instead of nine months.
