Topic > A modest proposal and let them eat the dog Rhetorical analysis
Foer suggests eating Fido. He also gives us a wedding-style stewed dog recipe. Swift does the same with children in Ireland. He says his people should sell the children and eat them. Swift says that if a child were roasted or baked, it would be a delicious dish. Swift wants her people to realize that they have a problem with overpopulation in Ireland. He gives them suggestions so that they do not become a burden on society and their parents. Foer tells how “the French eat their horses, the Spanish eat their cows, and the Indians eat their dogs.”(1) So perhaps we should imagine Mr. Ed on our plate. Foer also does this to tell us how we are becoming too crowded
