At the end of the romantic period everything changed. Art began to move towards different “isms” and music developed in an era that many classified as “modern”. A movement that began in the 20th century, modern classical music has taken a turn that has surprised many. Similar to the path taken by modern art, contemporary classical music broke away from tradition. Composers felt the need to express themselves in subjective forms.
