The robots are taking over us. Or are they taken over by robots? Many robots have been developed to make life easier. Robotics has had some positive effects in carrying out some jobs. It can help us complete difficult jobs that use materials that are unsafe for humans to handle, such as radioactive materials. A single robot can perform heavy tasks that would take 10 people to complete. However, this saving of time and money for companies could result in lost hours and wages for employees. Robotics is impacting many aspects of our lives right now, from work, to household chores, to medicine, and so much more. But which is really more effective and efficient? Humans or robots? Yet we continue to develop robots to help us. Is a future conquered by robots about to happen? Can robots be the future of our lives? Introduction Robots are machines that can do the work of a person and that operate automatically or are controlled by a computer (Merriam-Webster, 2014). The Robot Institute of America (circa 1979) defines robots as “a reprogrammable multifunctional manipulator designed to move materials, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed movements to perform a variety of tasks” (Branwyn, G.). The Japanese Industrial Robot Association (JIRA) has classified robots into the following: manual manipulators, sequential manipulators, programmable manipulators, numerically controlled robots, sensing robots, adaptive robots, intelligent robots, and intelligent mechatronic systems (Branwyn, G.) . Robots have been improved over time and have proven to be efficient because they are computer controlled. The history of robots dates back to the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans for the use of toys, tools... middle of paper... and is turned off. Conclusion Yes, robots can be part of the future of our lives. Many of our past successes can be attributed to the integration of robotics into many different applications. Without robots there would be a limit to what we will be capable of in the future. This includes discoveries made by rovers on Mars. Although the use of robots has reduced some jobs performed by humans, one of the most important benefits of using robots is the performance of dangerous tasks. As we continue to make advances in robotics, new applications will be discovered. With the help of robots we can discover new ways to improve things, at home and in the workplace. If we use our robots wisely, it can help us do dangerous jobs. Our lives can be improved and our knowledge expanded. I think robots will be the future of how the world will work.
