Topic > The future of adolescence is a stage of development

The definition of the word adolescence, the period of life in which a child becomes an adult, a stage of development (such as of a language or culture) before maturity. The definition of a crisis is a difficult or dangerous situation that requires serious attention. I have always believed that people are the product of their environment. Your environment can play a role in a child. Based on the theories I have read and my lived experiences, I have concluded that everyone goes through a crisis during adolescence, which can be positive or negative. Failure to search for one's identity can be very dangerous. It can have long-term effects that can affect your future. One crisis I was going through was when I dropped out of the New York City College of Technology, I stopped going to college because I realized that architecture wasn't the ideal professional I thought I would see myself as. What I was facing was a really scary crisis because architecture was the career I wanted to have since I was little. Afterwards I realized that architecture was not the career for me. I dropped out of college. I had a diffuse identity because I felt lost in life. I had no idea what I wanted to do, I wasn't in school and I wasn't sure if I had the commitment to go back to school. I had no future goals. All the life goals I had imagined would fall apart. Since I knew a lot of people knew I was studying architecture, I kept running into people asking me how my progress was going in school. It made me feel embarrassed to tell them that I had dropped out of the studio. I didn't want to seem like a failure in society. Since today's society is usually not welcoming to people who don't finish college. James Marcia's identity theory was likely... halfway through the paper... experience has conflicts such as insecurity, role diffusion, and role confusion; and the adolescent may indulge in one-sided, self-destructive worries or activities. The adolescent may continue to be morbidly worried about what others think of him, or he may withdraw and no longer care about himself or others. Similar to how I felt after dropping out of college, I thought about what people might think of me. In conclusion, it is very important to find your identity during adolescence. Failure to search for one's identity can be very dangerous. It can have lasting effects that can affect your future. Some people never find their identity, which leads to a very hostile and unstable life. Adolescence is a crucial period for the formation of the mature ego: many things happen in adolescence: gender orientation, school commitment and future career goals.
