When students collaborate on an assignment or project, the intent is to have them work together to complete the task. Both students should understand the entire task and have the ability to remember each other's thoughts. Collusion occurs when students cooperate unfairly to obtain a grade. Both students know little or nothing about their counterpart's portion. Collusion should be avoided because, even though the task may reach completion, students still do not understand the part of the work that they did not understand
