I opened the glass door feeling the warm breeze from the cool spring air. I decided it would be a good idea to pick up a new book, so I walked into Hastings and headed to the book section. I scanned the books seeing mostly romance in the young adult section. When I stopped my eyes fell on a book 'The Executioner' 'a slightly strange name for a book in this section sounds interesting.' Next to the young adult section was a quaint little coffee shop. The lawyer had just finished handing out the samples, his eyes fell on the book in my hand, “Oh, I love Darren Shan's writing, but I suggest starting with a different book,” he said. Her almost golden blonde hair was pulled back into a tight bun and she sported a sweet smile. "Really?" I responded to the curiosity with what he just said. "I would try the series 'The Cirque Du Freak', it was and is one of my favorites." he replied. “Thanks, they look interesting,” I said, scanning the first book in the 12-book series. The lawyer went back behind the counter and little did I know that it would be one of the best and worst decisions I had ever made. The Cirque Du Freak series is a 12 book series written by Darren Shan, who is now one of my favorite authors. I personally put this book in the fantasy genre even though it is usually marked as horror. (3) Most of the time I have trouble explaining this book and giving a short summary to other people because of one of the main aspects of the plot, which involves vampires. This book series came out before vampires were seen as love interests and were still placed in the horror genre. This series is long and complicated, the main plot of the first book is that a 12 year old boy named Darren Shan and his friend Steve go to a freak show where Steve discovers that... middle of paper... ... G. Another thing I love about this wonderful series is that it is not a love story but is written for teenagers and for both male and female audiences. There are three main female characters who fight and never give up. Arra Sails is one of the few female vampires and the only one mentioned in the book. She is never demoted any less than the male characters and is a wonderful role model. “I examined Arra as she was breaking off a splinter from one of the rounded ends of her staff. She looked as tough as any male vampire, not as burly, but just as muscular. Book 4 page 55 chapter 16 There are also hints of romance but not enough to turn anyone away, just enough to show what love does to a person. I sit on the bed with my legs bent up to my stomach, the book resting on my knees as I cry slightly as I finish one of the greatest stories or heroes, tragedy and love.
