Topic > Song as the art of persuasion

Persuasion is a type of communication that aims to convince someone to follow or accept a certain statement or idea. They normally involve people from different parties who have different opinions about a given object, idea or someone. There are several mediums used to convey persuasive messages which include works of art such as songs, poems, films, video clips, paintings, and speeches among other methods. This article seeks to examine how Bruno Mars' song “Just the Way You Are” conveys a persuasive message. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay Songs are a common form of entertainment in most cases, but they are also a way of communication because they always carry a message. Songwriters are always inclined towards what they want their audience to receive as a message from listening to their songs. Some inform, others advise while others educate and still others convince people in a certain direction or to change their belief about something while others help other people strengthen their belief about something. Bruno Mars in his song expresses what he feels towards the girl he is singing about. From the lyrics of the song we understand that he is telling the girl that she is so beautiful that even if he were given the chance to change her, he wouldn't change anything because she just seems perfect. From this statement it seems that according to him the girl did not strongly believe in her beauty. Bruno says that when she asks him if he is okay he would gladly tell her how beautiful she is just the way she is. Bruno uses the song to describe every part of the girl telling her how beautiful she was as if to convince her that he is truly beautiful. He says her hair is perfect even without being tied up and says he tells her about her beauty every day. This means that Bruno is trying to get into the girl's mind that she is really beautiful because in Bruno's words he thinks that girls don't see the beauty in her “I know, I know when I compliment her she won't do it believe me, and it's so, it's so sad to think that she doesn't see what I see." But he says that when she asks him how he is he compliments her beauty telling her that when he sees her face there is nothing he can change because she is amazing just the way she is. He goes on to tell her that when she smiles the whole world stops and stares at her for a while because of her beauty. He also describes how he likes her lips and her laugh, even though he may not like her, but to him she is just perfect the way she is. This song is persuasive because it tries to make the girl believe and see the beauty she has as Bruno describes it. . He says he is saddened that the girl he is describing doesn't see the beauty he sees in her. It means that what he tells her is that she believes in her beauty and according to persuasion, these arguments make the girl the artist is describing strong. These arguments are effective because in the video of the song “Just the You Are”, the girl seems happy and happy with the comments that the singer is using to compliment her. They are also effective because they portray a girl's beauty in a way that will see her strongly believe in what she believed in the beginning. Under normal circumstances, everyone will always consider themselves beautiful, but when you hear it from another person, it becomes more real and you come to hold those beliefs strongly. Among persuasive theories I wish to align this artwork with the elaboration probability model where persuasion is considered a cognitive event that seeks to influence an individual based on what they get from the art.
