Get an Original Essay In early 2016, the US software company Microsoft launched an advert titled “Make What’s Next”. The ad shows girls being asked if they can name any inventors. Although each child could answer this question with at least one or more inventors, it was emphasized that every single inventor listed was a male. When asked if they knew an inventor, the children could not think of a single female name. The ad then features the names of numerous women responsible for some of our society's greatest advances. The children suddenly realized that they were unaware of the existence of so many female inventors and in the advertisement it is stated by one child that "you never hear a girl in conversation" when it comes to inventors being talked about. The purpose of this announcement was to start a campaign to recognize the many overlooked female inventors and remind the world that there are many more people to be thankful for than just our most famous inventors like Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. This ad is meant to show you that anyone can invent the next big thing, that anyone can make a change in the world, and most importantly, everyone's intelligence is not limited to gender. This ad has significant potential to raise awareness of women's rights and the stereotype that women are not capable of performing and achieving the same level of work as men. For many years, women have been considered inferior to men. The workload and wages given to women would be lower only because of their gender, believing that brains and physical strength did not contribute as much to that of a man. According to the 2018 U.S. Census Bureau, “Today, on average, a woman earns 80.5 cents for every dollar a man earns, and a woman's average annual earnings are $10,086 less than that of men. “The idea that women are not as important as men, as well as the fact that their lower wages are justifiable due to their gender is an ignorant and discriminatory point of view. This is what the announcement appears to be putting an end to. While it may not be as common as it once was, there are still women who are treated as less than equal and many report how bad it is. This announcement will remind many that there are many great female minds we have to thank for the luxuries and opportunities we have today and who deserve the same benefits as anyone else. This advert is primarily aimed at young women and women in general; however, advertising can reach every individual even more as we should all be aware of who our inventors are and that we can all have the intelligence to do something great, that no one should discriminate based on appearance or gender. This ad is a great motivator as it shows all the great inventions women have come up with and how there are no limits to what anyone can do. It's the perfect reminder to never get discouraged in striving for greatness, no matter how hard you are told it will be because of who you are. Personally, short-term advertising doesn't seem to have a clear brand focus. Her main message is to let women know that they can make a difference in the world, regardless of any odds; However, Microsoft shows a clear interest that women can be of great value to their company and is working to provide women with the means to stay on top.
