Planning for your career and retirement is something that most people dedicate a large part of their lives to. From choosing the career that best suits their needs, to what comes next, many are intimidated by the decisions they must make that appropriately fit their comfort level for the future. In this assessment, the discussion about career, retirement and everything that comes with it will be outlined. The most suitable career for me would most likely be that of an individual counselor or psychologist. This career allows me to pursue different paths of interest to me. These avenues include helping others through self-understanding, person-to-person interaction, and problem solving. All three of the above-mentioned aspects of a career in psychology definitely help lock me firmly in place as far as interest and satisfaction go. Since the field of psychology is constantly growing as more is discovered, there would be room for growth and discovery. Say no to plagiarism. The workday style is advantageous, in that a self-made practice allows individual freedom with planning and the ability to control one's workflow. The key components of the field that appeal are control over time management, income, and the ability to change and adapt to new disciplines. In a consulting position, there is the opportunity for an individual to pursue their own practice. This is beneficial to the individual who can freely schedule their time and own their work. Personally, I feel better when I can control and manage my time independently of others. The next component is the income of this field. Depending on the amount of work and clients seen, your income may change. If an individual decides to align with a global company or work independently through their consulting vocation, they can earn a salary that allows for a comfortable lifestyle. Finally, the growth and change aspect is interesting. In psychology or the health field in general, we are constantly learning more, discovering new techniques, and finding better ways to heal. I find it particularly engaging because I am someone who needs to constantly immerse myself in new information and learn more. Many people don't have much choice and may find it irritating to slow down, while others find this to be a key aspect of their peace and freedom. Most people decide to retire around age 60, however, I am not sure what age I would like to retire. The good thing about the psychology field is that there are areas to volunteer in for retirees who still want to grow in the field outside of their professional lives. One of my biggest concerns is financial security and freedom. However, I know that in my chosen field there are areas for growth and development outside of a traditional career, so I have been able to find financial security outside of my investments. Additionally, making sure my cash savings is filled for three to six months of living expenses helps create an emergency fund if my investments aren't able to match. That said, before, 2018)., 2011).
