Ever since I was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in seventh grade, I have always dreamed of the day I would walk across the stage to become a part of the National Honor Society Honor. I have been consistently determined to do my best in every aspect of character, service, leadership and scholarship. Even today, I am influenced by the saying “be safe, kind, respectful and responsible,” as we were always taught in elementary and middle school. I believe that all of these traits are essential to building one's character, especially mine. I always made sure my choices, thoughts, words and actions were admirable. The ways I have done this include following the rules inside and outside of school, whether in the classroom, at work, during sports or at home. I think having a good character allows someone to improve their ability to achieve different daily tasks or goals that may seem difficult. Since I started school, I have held a high standard for doing well and my determination to do so has always been favorable. My determination leads me to dedicate myself to my grades and maintain a high GPA. It also leads me to challenge myself in certain areas like taking AP and Honors classes. I have been on the Dean's List and High Honor List from the first quarter of sixth grade until now. Without the trust that my family, friends, and teachers have in me, I would not have the motivation to do well in school. I believe that all the devotion to my character and academic attributes demonstrates my worthiness to be a part of the National Honor Society. In my middle and high school years, I was involved in at least one sport every year. These sports have allowed me to practice my ability to be a leader, both on and off the field. Having leadership in something special like a sports team gives me a sense of belonging, which helps me take those leadership skills elsewhere, like in clubs, at school, or even at home. I myself have three younger sisters, aged between three and fifteen. Being the eldest of these three also helped me strengthen my leadership skills. I feel like my job is to be a role model and set a good example for them. My leadership skills are also taken outside of school and home and put to use during community service. As a Girl Scout for almost thirteen years, I have had many opportunities to volunteer in different ways. These opportunities include participating in stocking food and toiletry shelves at a social service organization and purchasing gifts for the less fortunate at Christmas time. I have also volunteered on my own at events such as the Castleton Community Fair. All of these service opportunities have helped me better connect with the city and community. In the midst of all these events, I realized how rewarding it was for me to give back to the community and be of help to others. Having said all of this, I believe that the National Honor Society will give me the opportunity to exemplify my leadership skills and take part in even more events where I will feel rewarded during the process and even at the end.
