Topic > Reflection on Participation in the JROTC Program

Through 4 years in JROTC, I developed self-confidence and built leadership. Service learning has impacted my life to be a better citizen and help the community. JROTC is about preparing your future and your goals. JROTC kept me motivated, focused, and on task. The primary purpose of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. JROTC also helped me improve my physical fitness and learn some military-related skills. JROTC has the opportunity to develop skills by participating in different teams such as raiders, marksmanship and orienteering. JROTC will also look good on a skills job resume because most jobs are looking for someone who can take on the responsibility of knowing what it means to be a leader. JROTC has helped me with self-discipline and always being accountable for my actions and actions. JROTC teaches you not to lie, cheat or steal and to always be true to yourself and others. Service-learning enhances students' academic curriculum or the educational components of the community service program in which participants are enrolled. Service learning taught me the importance of reflecting on the community service I have done and actually getting something out of the experience. My classmates and I had the opportunity to participate in community service activities at Cleveland High School. JROTC requires that service within the community be enhanced by requiring all cadets to participate in a service learning project. Service-learning brings academics to life and is driven by student engagement. Students have a direct impact on an identified need that interests and motivates them. It requires sequential lessons organized so that orientation and training come before the meaningful service activity and structured reflection follows the activity. Service-learning fills a regional community or industry need and relates to students' course work. General volunteering simply involves serving the community. For example, volunteering at a soup kitchen begins and ends with what you do at the soup kitchen. Service learning does not exist and does not end with service rendered. Service-learning is an educational strategy that integrates community service with instruction and reflection to enrich learning experiences, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Service to others, to me, means being selfless, it means doing something for someone else without expecting any reward or gain. Service to others, for me, also means helping people when they can't complete a task on their own. Serving Others Love your neighbor as yourself Matthew 22:39 The Christian life is one of service to others, where we show love and kindness to all, even those who do not treat us well. We can serve others in many ways and should make sure we take advantage of every opportunity we can. Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others. Service to others leads to greatness. Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth. - Muhammad Ali
