Why are people who prefer a different lifestyle punished, not welcomed and frowned upon? One of these core lifestyles is involvement in the LGBTQA+ community. For centuries gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc. they were shamed and/or punished for who they loved and who they wanted to be. Get an Original Essay People usually treat the LGBTQA+ community so badly mainly because the world is built on the foundation of religion, which has greatly influenced the common opinion that disapproves of the different opinions and thoughts of the community. Even children who have same-sex parents, or who discover themselves in the community, face difficulties from adults telling them what is and is not appropriate for a successful future. Due to fear, the LGBTQA+ community is forced to hide from people who discriminate and prevent them from receiving jobs and/or housing. These punishments are unreasonable and raise another question. Why does the community need to fight for the equal opportunities that all other heterosexual people receive? For example, marriage is still reserved for them in a handful of states and countries. Although many people say that the LGBTQA+ community is immoral and unnatural, it is unconstitutional to deprive them of basic human and civil rights. The LGBTQA+ community has always fought for the same basic human rights as any other heterosexual person. Why? For centuries, history has followed religion's guidelines on how to live and what is/is not considered right and wrong. Of course, the idea that people preferred to be something other than their biological gender was “absurd,” so when the LGBTQA+ community started to develop people shunned them. This has been the way of life for decades. You had to live by the words of whatever sacred text you worshiped and never stray from the lifestyle it described, or you would be severely punished, tortured, or even killed. This forced anyone brave enough to stay true to their feelings of being gay and/or transgender into hiding. Even today, the LGBTQA+ community is forced to hide, otherwise they will be punished. People in the community are forced into hiding, for fear of being kicked out of their homes and/or jobs. This is a constant problem that occurs all over the world. People openly involved in the LGBTQA+ community would not be allowed to work or would be fired and would be neglected from housing or even evicted. The fanaticism towards thiscommunity grew so much that he was not even allowed to join the US Army. On December 21, President Bill Clinton enacted the 1993 "Don't Ask, Dont Tell Act." This act prohibited gays, bisexuals, and lesbians from serving in the military and from openly declaring who they were. President Bill Clinton stated that, "The known presence of a soldier on open duty would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability." This law was repealed after seventeen years by the “Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act” in 2010. While it allowed gays, lesbians, and bisexuals to serve openly in the U.S. military, it did not prohibit discrimination on the basis or on sexual orientation in the military. Furthermore, this did not lift the ban on admitting transgenders into the military. The results of an outdated discriminating medical standard showed that there were more medical problems with transgenders than with a hetersexual person. Of course, this “research” was never clearly explained, nor was it stated who conducted it, but it clearly showed that it favored personal opinion over actual facts. However, this law was revoked on June 30, 2016 by the Pentagon recognizing that the military wanted to recruit the best soldiers regardless of their gender identity There are still multiple rights that the LGBTQA+ community is not fully recognized, the main one still being the right to marry. Marriage should be allowed for all couples and not just those consisting of just a man and a woman. The age-old tradition of marriage is considered a sacred rite to unite two people. However, this was not allowed for people involved in the LGBTQA+ community, because it was stated that it was only between a man and a woman in both religion and, subsequently, law. “…this will be called “woman”, because she was taken from man…and is united to his wife and the two become one flesh”. In 1967 a couple approached the Supreme Court to legalize their right to marry, but found themselves faced with the ruling: “The institution of marriage as the union of man and woman... is as old as the book of Genesis. " This created the eternal argument that marriage is a right and not just a privilege. Marriage was considered a fundamental right in 1880, yet the State did not specify that it had to be between a man and a woman because they did not think that people would oppose it. In 2016 the Constitution declared that marriage would only be allowed for the union of a man and a woman. It was absolutely unconstitutional and obviously people were fighting and arguing about this new law supporters have made a good case for why this law should be abolished. People do not marry only for the purpose of procreation. The sole purpose of marriage was originally to increase the population. This stopped being a concern in the late 1700s the population began to stabilize and diseases were treated with more effective medicines. There is also a prejudice that same-sex married couples would be bad adults towards children if they were to start a family. This seems like a very stupid reason to not allow marriage between same-sex couples, and it is. Obviously a silly argument would be baseless, and there are no good reasons or facts as to why/how same-sex couples automatically make horrible parenting figures. The arguments continue to be the basis of the reasons why the LGBTQA+ community is not allowed access to the same privileges as other heterosexual people..
