Asia was amazing! Everything from the food I ate to the people I met gave me a new perspective on life. I still can't get over the fact that I traveled to the other side of the world. This school program has given me many memorable experiences, allowed me to learn a lot about Asian culture, and introduced me to friends that I will treasure for a lifetime. I knew there was a reason I had to go, and while I was there I tried to make the most of this opportunity. One of my most memorable experiences in Asia was my visit to the doctor. I knew my mild fever and itchy throat could be due to lack of sleep. With a twelve hour time difference, I had the worst jet lag possible. However, the Secretariat felt that I should go to the doctor, so I went. Once we arrived I took a look at the building and decided I felt a lot better. The office was a hole in the wall where family medicine and surgery was practiced. It was a stark contrast to the gigantic, pristine medical facilities I was used to. There was a very long line to see the doctor, so I sat next to a hacker kid and an anxious young mother. What happened next was the most harrowing part of my adventure. Once my date announced that I was part of the school program, the doctor took me right away. As I followed the nurse, I passed people who had been sitting there for much longer. There was a man with a piece of paper in his middle and it was wonderful to shop with him. Michael was a perfect gentleman. Marnie was always encouraging and understanding. Nisha and Rebecca Kozitza were fun. . . and so on. If it weren't for the wonderful personalities of each of us we would not have been able to tolerate such cramped living spaces. The final farewell was testimony to the closeness of our new friendships. I look forward to hosting another alumni event. Until then, I will treasure the friends I have made. The trip to Asia was the opportunity of a lifetime. It couldn't have been more perfect. We worked hard and learned a lot. The memories and friends made are unforgettable. I just hope I helped make someone else's trip just as wonderful.
