The appellant or losing party files a notice of appeal. This is a request for a case review. The court of appeal must hear the case but can decide to accept it or reject the appeal. The case is brought up again and the appellate court may decide to affirm it, which agrees with the lower court's decision, it may remand it, which means sending it back to the lower court to review specific issues, or it can be reversed, meaning that the lower court's decision is overturned and further proceedings proceed (Fradella & Neubauer, 2011).
