Some people imagine genetically modified foods as unhealthy and unnatural. Our grocery stores are full of genetically modified foods but we are not aware of it because the food is not labeled. If some people saw a label in the grocery store indicating that the product was genetically modified, they might go in the opposite direction. Individuals may think that genetically modified products will cause some type of harm to their bodies over time. Some people are extremely pessimistic about changes to what they consume. I am neither for nor against genetically modified foods. Changing food in my eyes could be a good thing because food could help fight world hunger and help evolve plants and animals to the point where they don't get diseases. On the other hand, genetically modified food could also be harmful because genetically modified organisms could escape from captivity and cause the extinction of natural organisms, and genetically modified food could cause allergic reactions based on the genes administered to it. they can be grown in seasons where food doesn't normally grow because of the new genes they are given. In the article written by Emily Anthes, she talks about how a company called AquaBounty wants to create genetically modified Atlantic salmon that can produce growth hormones during the cold months. Anthes says: “Normally, Atlantic salmon only produce growth hormone in the hot summer months, but these genetic adjustments allow the fish to churn it out year-round.” Allowing Atlantic salmon to produce growth hormone year-round means there will be more fish. Additionally, genetically modified fish will mature faster than regular salmon. Since the fish is... in the center of the card... people should open their eyes and try something out of the ordinary instead of sticking to one type of thing. To be honest, I have never heard of genetically modified foods causing any kind of health problems in people who consume genetically modified foods. What do you think? Do you consider genetically modified food as “frank food” that should not be created? Or do you think we as a people should try genetically modified food before judging it?
