I believe that commercialization comes and must be present when turning sport into a business. It is necessary. Athletes, coaches and owners today earn millions of dollars more than some wealthy entrepreneurs. However, there are critics of the commercialization of sport who believe that commercialization corrupts sport. The thesis of corruption according to Simon on page. 190 of Fair Play: Ethics of Sport: “We can understand corruption to mean that the values internal to sport, such as those of fair competition, sportsmanship and perhaps the mutual pursuit of excellence, are or have already been weakened by the growing commercialization of sport". While in class, I didn't quite agree with the idea that commercialization could completely corrupt the sport with an understanding more in tune with the corruption thesis; Now I understand how it could and where many critics of the commercialization of sport are getting at
