In life, we describe mice as dirty creatures that take our food and other objects; they are parasites. Likewise, cats, on many occasions, are welcomed to rid the house of these parasites. They will eat these mice or chase them out of the house. During the Holocaust, in Spiegelman's novel, the Nazis do just that. In the first part of his graphic novel, My Father Bleeds History, he shows these same Germans beginning to eliminate the Jews one group at a time, starting with the elderly. On page 88, Vladek and his family received a notice from the Germans stating: "All Jews over 70 will be transferred to Theresienstadt in Czechoslovakia on May 10, 1942." This was the first step taken by the Nazis to eradicate the Jews. After the elders were expelled, the Nazis began eliminating Jews who could and could not work. Jews who knew how to work were given stamps and sent home, those who didn't know how to work or seemed weak were sent away “And those on the bad side never went home again” (Spiegelman 93). Every day fewer and fewer Jews remained due to the elimination of the Nazis
