Topic > Importance of Collaborative Research - 971

Due to its many benefits, collaborative research has been strongly encouraged in the last decade. Help researchers from different disciplines share knowledge and resources. Furthermore, the government has specifically created grants for collaborative research as an incentive for collaborative research (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative). In addition to the numerous benefits, there are also countless problems that can arise from collaborative research that need to be addressed on a very diplomatic level. These problems increase significantly when research is conducted abroad. Many discoveries have arisen from the collaboration of colleagues with different cultural and ethical backgrounds. As technology and science enter their best era, international collaboration has increased tremendously. Communication around the world is no longer a barrier and neither is transportation. What is missing, however, is education about other cultures around the world. This could prevent many problems that often plague the foreign research environment. Simple problems that are easy to overlook can become huge problems if not taken into account. An example of this is measurement systems due to their inconsistency across the world. Corruption is very common in most of the world and so are low salaries, which can interfere with the accuracy of your results and the length of your search. Furthermore, the terms vary across cultures and languages, causing extreme confusion. Problems with these and other sources have been an obstacle to international researchers for decades, but its belated popularity has brought it to the attention of governments. With this in mind, the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) of the US Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the University of Mi...... half of the document ......find the fund, but the authors should be those who put intellectual knowledge into the work (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative)*. Partners should not be exploited. Credit must be given where credit is due (Glew 282). While not the primary focus when reading peer-reviewed journals, much credence should be given to reports of this kind. Successful study abroad relies on a team that is open-minded, patient, honest, selfless and, for those who are not natives, willing to learn and understand the culture. Open and honest communication throughout the search process is the key to success. Nobody must take anything for granted, everything must be clear and transparent; “The key is to take nothing for granted and put everything on the table for discussion as early in the relationship as possible” (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative).
