Marji is depicted internally when she says she refers to herself as "this is me". Readers are able to use their imagination and the context of the scene to fully realize the character's face in the panels. Satrapis' illustrations do not incorporate many details, so this allows readers to fill in the story with their imaginations. The vignette in Persepolis 2 is simplistic and to the point. There is little distraction on the page and the layout of the panels is neat and reads from left to right. Looking at his work it is clear that it is the reader's job to complete the illustration. Why would Satrapi do this? He presents his illustrations in this way because doing so allows the reader to believe in the characters more and become involved in the story. Moving forward, looking closely at the veils in the top panel, you can see that it's much more than just an accessory that appears on the page.
