Topic > Behavior Modification Model - 1775

Over the decades, numerous studies and research have been undertaken to explain why students cause disruptions in the classroom setting. The academic literature states that there are three main categories of behavior management that teachers can use to manage and overcome behavioral problems. The first concerns management theories in which behavior is explained as the result of the child's interaction with his environment. In this category, the behavior is reinforced through rewards and for the behavior to be demonstrated correctly, students must receive adequate guidance from their teachers. Management theories have the most teacher control compared to the other two categories of behavior because they exclusively convey knowledge. The second category is leadership theories in which behavior is performed to satisfy a person's basic needs. This theory states that behavior is shaped by past experiences and through this people develop a belief system that influences future behavior. Teachers relinquish some control and work with students to negotiate behaviors and expectations. The third and final category of behavior concerns non-directive intervention theories and is based on the development of inner development within the child. Teachers now act as facilitators and provide opportunities for self-growth. This essay will critically evaluate the Behavior Modification model, which is part of Management theory, with the Positiver behavioral leadership model falling into the category of Leadership theories. The theoretical basis of the behavior modification model comes from B.F. Skinner's work on operant conditioning. Skinner believed that student behavior was the result of their responses to the environment and stimuli... center of paper... students often disrupt learning within a classroom for a variety of reasons, including home la life and the need to belong. It is the teacher's job to recognize the different behavioral problems that students will demonstrate and appropriately apply the appropriate behavioral theories, whether management, leadership, or nondirective intervention, to overcome these problems. There is no set theory that can be applied. It depends on the context to which a teacher is exposed, whether it is a primary school classroom or a high school sports lesson, and teachers can apply a range of principles from different theories that work for them and their students. For a behavior management approach to be effective, teachers must first build a strong student-centered relationship and then instill a positive classroom environment in which all students feel safe and can learn..
