Topic > Smoking: is it good for the economy? - 940

Smoking, when you hear it you automatically think of death, but imagine being in a world where smoking was actually good for the economy. What would the person's expression be like? Smoking is one of the most harmful killers in the United States, but can it be good for the economy? In fact, it may seem unbelievable to some, but smoking is actually very good for the economy. Many studies have proven different kinds of facts about how smoking is bad for the economy, but recent studies have shown that the more people smoke, the sooner they will die. Because people die, the United States has to pay less money. Research has shown that Social Security, Medicare, and long-term health care costs would be reduced. Getting to a point where it is more acceptable to care for people in their seventies, eighties and beyond. As a result, not only does smoking help make money for the United States, but it also helps make money for the economy. Economist Kip Viscusi has produced a wealth of numbers showing that smoking results in cheaper costs to the economy (Smoking is Good). This study shows that for every pack of cigarettes smoked the country obtains a net cost saving of at least 32 cents (Is Smoking Good). The Czech government also has a great social benefit from Philip Morris products. Philip Morris USA Inc. is the nation's largest cigarette manufacturer (Philip Morris USA). For more than 20 years it has had the highest revenue, revenue, volume and market share in the US cigarette industry (Philip Morris USA). Philip Morris USA Inc, has been around for more than 150 years and is still going strong. In 1854, Philip Morris created his fifth... middle of paper... a better place. No matter how you look at it, you can never prove that smoking is 100% bad for the economy or 100% good for the economy. Smoking is in many cases harmful to health, but can it be proven that it is harmful to the economy?
