School Building: Bad Decision My only "normal" year of high school was my freshman year. I don't know if any part of high school is normal, but the last three years have been miserable for me. Those years were full of construction. Greeneville High School was built in 1950 and was in serious need of help. The city had to make a decision about what it wanted. They weren't sure whether to build a brand new school in a new location or renovate and expand it right where it is. They chose to rebuild and expand. This meant that in my later years I would have a major headache. I'm not saying that the decision to leave the school in its current location was wrong, but I don't think anyone really took into consideration the problems it would cause. At the beginning of the first year, the school system sent out surveys asking parents what they thought about fixing the school. Everyone in my city knew something needed to be done years ago. I was surprised that the building hadn't already collapsed. You sat in class and looked out through cracks in the walls. Most of the city wanted to build a new school on a new site. It would help alleviate overcrowding and parking conditions. They could continue to build in another location without problems, when necessary. That dream was dashed when the announcement came that the school would remain where it is. What happened? The two men who would put the money into the new school had to decide where the school would go. (the men are not named, so no one who knows them is offended) They feared that if the school moved from its existing location, the downtown area would lose money. These two men decided everything without considering the repercussions. So, with this decision, my high school years were changed forever.
