Why School Uniforms are a MustEnglish 122Instructor: Nelly AguilarBy. Melodie Ford, March 30, 2014 As our traditional American attitudes change, society as a whole has had to adapt in some important ways. Violence is on the rise across our nation, and equality is as much of an issue as it was in the 1950s and 1960s. Protecting our children from violence and bullying is a duty and keeping them equal at school is imperative. As our county has grown, we have seen many different groups move into more rural areas. This has caused great concern to some parents who want to be able to provide the best educational experience for their children, without feeling the pressure of keeping up with Jones. School uniforms increased equality in lower grade levels and helped decrease violent crime in higher grades. Too often children are forced to integrate. When they don't, it's difficult for them to function in school. Children will take from others, rob, and even kill others so they can have the latest Jordan or Nike hat. When kids wear uniforms they all look alike, kind of like teammates. Being able to recognize who belongs to the school is important to keep gangs away. It also keeps those who intend to harm others out of the building, helping staff identify who should and should not be on school grounds. Yes, I know there are ways around this, but it would discourage some. I think schools that adopt a uniform for both teachers and students are going a big step further in ensuring that students are also clear about who belongs in the school and who doesn't. According to King (1998), “children's hunger to be fashionable brings another dimension to the connection between clothing style and… the medium of paper… better quality shoes or clothes. Some children don't care about how they look at all because they actually go to school to learn. This has caused great concern among some parents who want to be able to provide the best educational experience for their children, without feeling the pressure to keep up. Not only is equality an issue, but reducing violence in schools has become a bigger issue every year. School uniforms have increased equality at lower grade levels and have helped decrease violent crime at higher grade levels. By allowing children to feel equal and receive a good education we are doing what our ancestors fought for, that is, giving them the knowledge to be free. The more you know in life, the more successful you will be, and by providing our children with a safe, non-threatening, fair and cooperative environment, we are adding to their chances of success.
