For those who are unfamiliar, body shaming simply means judging someone based solely on their physical appearance. In a recent video provided by ABC News, a group of women are seen discussing how they needed willpower to succeed in losing weight. Each of them gives emotional responses about how they would go into the dressing room and cry because something was wrong or how some women actually faced the issue of having to buy an extra plane ticket because they were "too big" for a seat. The video goes on to talk about how when they started their weight loss journey many received criticism from social media and even loved ones. They made it a priority to live a healthier life not only for themselves, but also to show others what they were capable of. I personally believe that because they continued to have willpower, they proved everyone wrong by losing up to 50-100 lbs. Body shaming is something no one should have to deal with, especially if it gets to the point where someone loses self-confidence. But because of the media, the ideal woman we see in magazines and on television are women who are six feet tall, slim built, slim, with blonde hair and blue eyes. So it actually becomes easy for people to feel ashamed of someone's body because we are conditioned to see this certain type of person when it comes to seeing something different from us.
