When you think of a superhero you normally think of Spiderman, Batman or Superman, but superheroes existed long before these characters were created. First you need to understand that the basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the ordinary to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic, whether physical or mental. They are individuals that normal, everyday people can look up to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more than someone who is a hero, but not just once and for that person, but someone who helps many people or guides them. As time went on the number of people who were true heroes dwindled and simply doing something for someone was no longer big news. There had to be something extra to make them stand out. American culture needed someone or something to look up to and that's where our everyday superheroes come in. He gave them a goal that could never be achieved in hopes that people would never stop trying. If you think about it, although it may be hard to believe, superheroes derive from God. This started as early as the Greek gods, and then led to Jesus. Jesus was a seemingly normal man who helped everyone and guided people. He was the ultimate superhero of his time.
