In our study of women across cultures and women's empowerment it is imperative to include not only heterosexual women but also lesbian and bisexual women, as it integrates a sense of multiculturalism that introduces and enhances multiple perspectives of women's experiences. In the fight for women's equality, heterosexual feminists have often overlooked lesbian and bisexual women due to the negative connotations that have emerged that all feminists are lesbians and man-haters. This is also common because homophobia and heterosexism are often used to combat feminism, causing heterosexual women to resent the association of lesbians with feminists. In the specific context of the United States, lesbian feminism has created a foundation for women who love other women to take a powerful stand and fight against patriarchal traditions. From the workplace to the marketplace, lesbian and bisexual women face discrimination and non-acceptance on a daily basis due to people's lack of understanding and tolerance of their specific way of life. In the article I intend to discuss, the origins of lesbian movements in the United States. Secondly, talk about the opposition towards lesbians and feminists to live a non-heterosexual life, due to factors such as compulsory heterosexuality and heteropatriarchy. Third, I will address the consequences of society's perversion of lesbian and bisexual women, forcing them into hiding, known as lesbian and bisexual invisibility. Finally, I will discuss the responses that lesbians in America have revealed as a means to normalize lesbianism and reduce its negative stereotypes, as well as mention the grassroots organizations that have been created to combat the inequality present in the… paper…. ..the necessity of women's dependence on men. Unfortunately, compulsory heterosexuality is reinforced daily through multiple social institutions including religion, literature, and politics. Compulsory heterosexuality has contributed to the confinement of women to lower-paid jobs than men because of the sexual marketability required of women to be heterosexual feminine women. The pressure to be heterosexual in the workforce then and now in America extends into society turning women into sexual prayers fueling the dominance of men especially in the workforce. This reality has caused disruption within the feminist movement as it continues to disempower by not allowing the growth of sexualities such as lesbianism. By ignoring other sexual orientations, society is inhibiting the prosperity of people, especially women, who are still fighting the battles for equality..
