The sector is highly fragmented and most of these companies are part of the unorganized sector. These manufacturing units contribute significantly to the production of auto components and also participate in the export sector. However, sustenance and survival still remains an issue for these companies as they will have to absorb best practices in a highly competitive industry. Cost competitiveness, customer orientation i.e. meeting the specific needs of its customers, delivery times and most importantly technology updating are some of the issues that need to be improved in the case of SMEs in this sector.
