Topic > Light and photosynthesis - 1268

Introduction.Light is a very important factor in the rate of photosynthesis, in my project I will test that plants need light for photosynthesis. It will be very interesting to see how light will affect the rate of photosynthesis in plants and what will happen if they do not receive the light needed to produce starch. The plant I chose to create is a Geranium which is a dicotyledonous plant found in the dry and hot regions of South Africa. Purpose: To see whether or not light affects the rate of photosynthesis in plants. Research hypotheses. Photosynthesis will occur at a faster rate when the plant is exposed to the sun, compared to when it is not exposed to sunlight. I chose to test the effect that light has on plants because it is very interesting to test that light is a factor very important, and as the earth gets warmer it will be interesting to see what happens eventually while sunlight is important at the moment and is a key ingredient for photosynthesis, it will also be very interesting to see what would happen if plants had no exposure to the sun and if they adapted. Literature review Article 1: Plant photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process in plants that converts light energy into chemical energy, which is stored in sugar bonds. The process takes place in the chloroplasts, using chlorophyll. Photosynthesis occurs in green leaves. From raw materials we obtain glucose, carbon dioxide, water, light energy and oxygen which is emitted as a waste product. In these light-dependent reactions, energy is used to separate electrons from suitable substances such as water, producing oxygen. In plants, sugars are produced by a successive sequence of light-independent reactions called th...... middle of paper ...... very good since the plant I tested was made correctly and had a band that was yellow/brown where there was no starch, the same leaf had a black edge where the paper/sheet was not placed, this was black because photosynthesis had occurred and produced starch. Thus demonstrating that light, together with the other main ingredients, are important factors for photosynthesis to occur successfully. Bibliography Effects of light. (2013, December 16).
