Using the infinite power of ocean waves, you can create infinite energy. Wave power plants have a simple but practical way of harnessing the endless energy provided by ocean waves. Although the development of exploiting this renewable energy source is still in its infancy, many predict that this leaky resource could be used worldwide in the near future. Wave power plants are able to harness renewable energy using ocean waves. There are several types of wave power plants, but most behave similarly. Most have a mechanical object that is affected by ocean waves. The mechanical object is then connected to some sort of generator, thus creating electrical energy. There are several popular wave power plants, one of which is the Pelamis wave energy converter. This wave plant is a large red and yellow snake-like object that simply sits on the surface of the ocean and generates energy from the waves. Pelamis wavy plants are red and yellow as these are the two easiest colors to see in the ocean. The snake-shaped structures generate energy whenever ocean waves cause them to move in a wave-like motion. These types of wave rigs are typically installed six miles from any coast and are connected to the ocean floor with steel cables. Additionally, each plant is capable of generating enough electricity to power 500 homes (“Pelamis Technology,” n.d.). Another type of wave power plant is the Searaser. Searasers simply use a large metal buoy that moves up and down in the surf. As the metal buoy floats up and down with the tide, electricity is generated and stored. Searasers are normally found quite close to the coast. The reason for this is because Searasers do not store electricity which they... are middle of paper... a resource. The power of the ocean is something humans have known for centuries. However, the idea of using ocean energy to power large numbers of people around the world should be something that is being thoroughly researched. The United States must take advantage of this wonderful energy resource. Ocean energy is something that many people don't think about when the idea of a renewable energy source comes up. If the right amount of research is done and the right amount of time is dedicated to implementing wave energy as a power source. Then I'm sure that if wave energy was implemented correctly, hundreds of thousands of people could benefit from it. Wave energy businesses and thousands of jobs would be created. Not to mention, it would be not just a step, but a leap in the right direction when it comes to creating a greener earth..
