Power is one of the things that changes an individual's perspective on life and his attitude towards it. Nikki Grimes, the author of Bronx Masquerade, tells the story of 18 teenagers struggling through their senior year of high school. The English teacher decides to organize Open Mike Friday where the student brings poems to share. At first most of the kids don't even know each other, but eventually friendships are formed and the kids gain a new perspective on their lives. Power is also present in the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell. Animal Farm is the story of two pigs Snowball and Napoleon who want direct power over the farm when Old Major, a respected figure, dies. Snowball identifies what is right for the farm, but Napoleon and his jealousy chase him off the farm, which causes the farm to head down the false path of communism and dictatorship. Power also plays a role in the play Othello written by William Shakespeare. Iago presents himself as a very loyal and sincere friend to Othello while his other side is much more ruthless and cruel towards him. Iago wants power so he can dominate Othello and make him look like a fool. Too much power or lack of power changes an individual positively and negatively, as seen in the characters Tyrone, Napoleon, and Iago. Too much power and lack of power change Tyrone positively and negatively due to his surroundings and classmates. The author gave Tyrone so much power that he could analyze the characters as they read their poems. Tyrone has the power to look into his classmates' lives and analyze them thoroughly so that he can eventually get along with them and get to know them better, this changes him positively. At the beginning Tyrone has lack of power and... middle of paper... n individual in positive and negative ways. Too much power and lack of power change Tyron positively and negatively because of his teachers and friends. Too much power changes Tyrone positively, he now knows his point of view on life and gets along very well with his classmates, lack of power changes Tyrone negatively because of the white people who are ruining his future. Too much power changes Napoleon positively, he can control the farm and the animals, it changes him negatively, he has lost his identity and treats the animals cruelly. Too much power changes Iago negatively, he has lost his identity and in the end his plan fails and he is now powerless. These are some of the ways that too much power and lack of power change an individual positively and negatively, as seen in the books Bronx Masquerade, Animal Farm and the play Othello..
