Topic > Obamacare: The Future of Health Care - 841

My first reason for supporting Obamacare is that there are now more consumer rights and protections for patients. Before Obamacare, patients could take advantage of insurance companies. If a child had a condition such as asthma or diabetes, the insurance companies refused. Under the new health law, no American can be rejected by an insurance company because of an illness or injury. Today there are approximately 17.6 million American children who have a pre-existing health condition. Now everyone can be covered and many lives could be saved (“Healthcare”). It's amazing that every American can get healthcare now, but what's the point if we don't know how to use it? Many Americans are in the dark when it comes to healthcare. Obamacare will change that. If a state requires the new health care law, it can set up offices to help consumers become more educated about health care. Health care is a wonderful thing to have for you and your family, but it will go to waste assuming we don't understand it. With the new law, in fact, insurance companies will have to put their information online allowing consumers to compare the prices of different companies side by side. Obamacare provides you with all the information you need to become more educated about health care ("Health Care Features"). Another feature of Obamacare is increasing access to health care. If you are already insured you can get a package of new consumer benefits. If you are uninsured, you can enroll in Medicaid if you have a low income. If you have a high income you can get health insurance through an exchange at a better price than a private insurance company (Tate 17-18). Obamacare's biggest goal is to insure uninsured Americans.
