Topic > Starbucks Structure Case Study - 951

For this assignment, we are required to write an article after reviewing the “Starbucks Structure” case study found in Chapter 3 of The Five Functions of Effective Management. In this article I will analyze the infamous coffee company Starbucks and what organizational structure is the best form for this company, with special attention to the job descriptions for an employee. I will also determine the form of departmentalization, whether Starbucks should incorporate food, and whether, faced with financial struggles, it should centralize power or decentralize operations. However, before I get into all that, I'll give a little background about the company. In 1971, Starbucks opened its doors to the company to become one of the best-known coffee chains. The first store is located in Seattle and is part of Pike's Place Market, a huge tourist attraction. I personally was there several times when I was declared in Washington State from 2011 to 2013. “In 1981, Howard Schultz (chairman, president and CEO of Starbucks) walked into a Starbucks store for the first time. From his first cup of Sumatra, Howard was drawn to Starbucks and joined a year later in 2014).” Forty-two years later you can still walk into this chain and get a nice, expensive cup of coffee, but I believe you get what you paid for. “Today, with more than 18,000 stores in 62 countries, Starbucks is the world's leading specialty coffee roaster and retailer (2014).” Starbucks' mission is to inspire and cultivate the human spirit - one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time and with that, my job description is the People's Barista. According to our course material, job design is how we define job descriptions and departments (Reilly, Minnick and Baack,...... middle of paper...... yes, we adapt to the change and to employee roles. “An Organizational Adaptation Matrix consists of designing the company by product and by country (Reilly, Minnick, & Baack, 2011).” This is especially important when Starbucks is geographically known and should be able to conform to the surrounding environment and people's tastes location These changes would be successful because they would improve customer experience and define communication Furthermore, if Starbucks changes its organization or structure, this company will continue to be a popular coffee shop. Really, I hope they learn to lower their prices, but I love that they listen to their customers and employees. Also, if they expand their menu, I hope they do so I can enjoy the best of both worlds since Starbuck's will be around for a long time. time until their caffeine is addictive to coffee goers like me.
